Monument Lake Colorado

Play Video about Monument Lake Fishing and Paddle boarding

Located on the west side of I-25, Monument Lake is one of the best small public fishing and paddle-boarding lakes between Colorado Springs and Denver. The surface area of Monument Lake is a little more than 30 Acres and is reported to have a max depth of approximately 35ft. If you are planning to go out on the lake be sure to wear your life vest while fishing or paddle boarding.

This cold-water lake is fed by Monument Creek and Monument Creek North located on Rampart Range. Because of its close location to the mountain range, the water is usually very clear and much cleaner than lakes found downstream in Colorado Springs.

Monument Lake Directions

Monument Lake is very easy to access from I-25. From North or South Bound I-25, take exit 161 for Co-105. Go west on HY-105 to 2nd Street. Continue west through Downtown Monument across the railroad tracks to Mitchell Ave. From here, overflow parking for Monument Lake can be found directly on the west side of the railroad tracks. The main road and trail into Monument Lake are located directly across the street.

Parking is limited at Monument Lake during peak season. If lakeside parking is not available, overflow parking is the best alternative. There are several private residences that back up to Monument Lake, parking on Lake Vista Pt or Lakeside Dr is prohibited and will get your vehicle towed.

Monument Lake Hours

Monument Lake hours are limited to Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Monument Weather Forecast and Temprature

With over 300 days of sunshine every year, Monument Colorado is a great place to get out and explore the great outdoors.

On average, temperatures in Monument Colorado are usually about 5 degrees colder than in Colorado Springs. Because of the town’s proximity to Rampart Range, Monument Weather can change very quickly. It is always a good idea to check the weather forecast before going fishing or paddle boarding at Monument Lake.

Monument Lake Fishing

Monument Lake Fishing is permitted with a Colorado Fishing License. You can purchase a Colorado Fishing License at the Monument Walmart located in Jackson Creek.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife stocks the lake regularly. Monument Lake has multiple types of fish including rainbow trout, cutbow trout, cutthroat trout, blue gill, perch, and pike. There are also rumors that the lake may also have some small-mouth bass and large-mouth bass.

Monument Lake Swimming

Unfortunately, there is no swimming at Monument Lake and it is posted on signs around the lake.

Although swimming is not allowed, visitors often enjoy sunbathing next to the lake, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, and sometimes dipping a toe in the water.
